Proserpine and Whitsunday police routinely target drug users in the area. As virtually all traffic has to travel on either Shute Harbour Road or the Bruce Highway, the chances of diverting past the booze buses and their drug testing gear is very low, even for locals. On a recent weekend, over 100 people were tested for drugs, along with 900 breath tests. Police expect drug testing to continue within the Whitsunday area.
